Lower thirds without an OBS plugin
Most lower third setups for OBS mean installing a plugin, editing local files and switching scenes by hand. In Vision, lower thirds are a layer in your overlay: you design them in the browser, OBS shows them through the same browser source as the rest of your overlay, and anyone you give access can trigger them – from any computer, on Mac or Windows.
How to set up lower thirds
- Open an overlay in Vision and add a Lower Third layer with the + button
- Click Add Lower Third and enter a title and subtitle – for example a guest's name and their channel. Add an image if you like
- Add more entries for your guests, segments or sponsors – up to 30 per layer
- Choose where it appears: nine positions from top left to bottom right
- Press play on an entry to show it. It hides automatically after the display duration, or stays up until you stop it if you turn on Permanently show selected lower third
Use Testing Mode to try a lower third in the editor without it appearing on stream.
Design your lower thirds
Open the Design Editor to style your lower thirds the way you want:
- Text: font, weight, size, color and shadow for title and subtitle
- Card: background, padding, rounded corners, borders, shadows and blur effects
- Image and logo: a guest picture per entry and a fixed brand logo in the corner
- Animation: fade, slide or zoom in and out, with easing and delays per element – or start from presets like "Slide in from left", "Fade up" or "Pop"
- Custom CSS for everything else
Start from a public design and duplicate it, or build your own from scratch.
Let your mods run the lower thirds
Your producer or a mod can trigger lower thirds from their own browser while you stay on camera. Invite them in Vision and give them a role that can edit overlays, such as the built-in Editor role. They see the same list of entries and press play when the guest starts talking.
