Philips Hue lights that react to your Twitch alerts
Your room can react to your stream too. A raid turns the lights red, a new sub makes them glow purple, and when you go live your streaming scene switches on by itself.

How it works
What you need for Philips Hue on stream
Connect your Philips Hue account in Vision under Settings → Connections. Then create an automation: pick a trigger such as an alert, a channel point reward, stream start or a Stream Deck button, and add a Philips Hue action that turns lights on or off, sets brightness and color, or activates one of your Hue scenes.
- A Philips Hue Bridge that is connected to the internet and your Hue account
- A Vision account with Automations (Basic or Pro)
- Hue lights or rooms in the Hue app, and scenes if you want to use them
Step by step
Set up Philips Hue with Vision Automations
Connect Philips Hue
In Vision, open Settings → Connections → Philips Hue and click Connect Philips Hue. Sign in with your Hue account and allow access. Vision links your bridge through Hue's cloud, so it works even when OBS runs on another network.
Create an automation
Open Automations and create a new one. Choose the trigger that should change your lights – for example an alert for a sub or raid, a channel point reward, your stream going live or a Stream Deck button.
Add the Philips Hue action
Add a Philips Hue action and pick a target: all lights, a room, a zone or a single light. Choose Turn on, Turn off, Toggle, Set brightness / color or Activate scene.
Set color, brightness and fade
For Set brightness / color, pick a color and brightness. Use the transition to fade instead of switching hard. For Activate scene, pick one of the scenes you created in the Hue app.
Publish and test
Publish the automation and trigger it once – for example with a test alert or the Stream Deck button – and check that the right room reacts.
Ideas for Philips Hue on stream
Raid: switch your room to red with a short fade. New sub or gift sub: a purple glow in your streaming room. Bits or tips: a gold flash of color on your desk lamp.
Going live: activate your Streaming scene. Stream ends: turn the lights back to your normal scene or off. Channel points: let viewers pick a color for your background light.
Back to your normal light after an alert
The Hue action does not remember the previous state. To return to normal after an alert, add a Delay after the color change and then a second Philips Hue action that activates your usual scene. Keep your everyday light as a Hue scene so you can always switch back to it.
Philips Hue on your Stream Deck, without a plugin
With the Vision Stream Deck integration, a button can run an automation. Put your Hue scenes on buttons – Streaming, Just Chatting, BRB – and switch your room together with your overlay, without a separate Hue plugin.
Troubleshooting
If something is not working
- Nothing happens? Check that the Hue connection in Settings is active and that your bridge is online in the Hue app.
- Only some lights change color? White-only bulbs can change brightness but not color, and colors are matched to what each lamp can show.
- A message about a rate limit? Philips Hue limits how many commands can be sent in a short time – avoid triggers that fire many times per second.
FAQ
Philips Hue and Twitch: common questions
Do I need a Hue Bridge?
Yes. Vision controls your lights through the Philips Hue cloud, so you need a Hue Bridge that is connected to the internet and to your Hue account.
Does it work if OBS runs on another computer or network?
Yes. The automations run in Vision and talk to your bridge through Hue's cloud, not through your local network.
Can my lights flash or loop through colors?
Not at the moment. You can turn lights on or off, set brightness and color with a fade, and activate any scene you created in the Hue app.
Which plan do I need?
Automations are part of Vision's Basic and Pro plans and are currently in beta.
